Theory Of Education (TOE)
Overview
This department provides fundamentals which guide the student teacher to establish the link between theory and practice of education. The department comprises three sections namely; Psychology of Education and Inclusive Education, Philosophy of Education and Curriculum Issues, and Sociology of Education and Educational Administration.
It is through such psychological, philosophical and sociological knowledge that student teachers can develop the basis for understanding human behaviour, with particular emphasis on the primary school child. Of critical importance is the department`s appeal to the
enhancement of inclusive practices where knowledge on how to support learners` individual differences, including gender, culture, race and socio-economic status is imparted to the student teachers.
The department also equips student teachers with research skills as part of its response to calls by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development to adopt Education 5.0 in higher and tertiary institutions to enhance the heritage-based education philosophy.
