Overview
The Practicals Area is a dynamic and integral part of our educational institution, offering a diverse range of courses that prepare student teachers for careers in music, physical education, art and design, textiles and technology design, as well as food and technology design. This department is dedicated to fostering creativity, physical wellness, and practical skills among our aspiring educators
Here, we believe that teaching is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about inspiring a passion for learning, fostering artistic expression, promoting physical fitness, and instilling practical life skills.
Learning Areas
Music
The subject area offers two courses Music and Dance for Professional studies and Music Main Study. Music and Dance prepares students to be versatile in the teaching and learning of Visual and Performing Arts in the Primary School specifically in Music and Dance learning areas. In this course students are exposed to History and culture, Music and Dance technologies, Enterprise skills and Creative process and performance. After going through the course, students are expected to display innovation and modernisation, competence in theoretical, pedagogical and practical skills in delivering effective instruction in Visual and Performing Arts in Primary school. The subject area also offer Music Main Study for academic development of students in music. In this course the students are trained in History of Western Art music, History of African music, Ethnomusicology, Organology, Major cultural Dance styles of Zimbabwe and Theory of music up to Grade Five
Physical Education, Sport and Mass Displays
This is intended to equip the student teacher with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in Physical Education Sport and Mass Displays.
CLOTHING & TEXTILE DESIGN
This syllabus is designed for post student teachers on a three year pre-service primary school teacher education programme with specialization and expertise in Textiles Technology and Design. The syllabus aims to assist students to implement innovation and industrialization expertise in the classroom and the community at large through heritage based education.
ART & DESIGN
After going through the course, students are expected to display innovation and modernisation competences in theoretical, pedagogical, practical skills and knowledge in Art and Design in line with the Heritage Based Education Philosophy. The work covered in the three years constitutes first year University degree.
FOOD & TECHNOLOGY DESIGN
This syllabus aims to impart Food Technology and Design knowledge so as to enable student teachers to deal with contemporary issues affecting the Zimbabwean society and the world at large.
